Nintendo Wii Hardware

For a number of months, there have been incessant talks about the imminent release of Nintendo’s seventh generation video game console, named Nintendo Wii. This is the company’s retaliation to some rumors that claim that Sony’s and Microsoft’s success in the video gaming industry have virtually eliminated Nintendo out of the competition. The release of the Nintendo Wii last November 19, 2006 brought home the fact that the company is still a very much a formidable adversary. Much to Sony’s consternation, there were thousand of people who chose Nintendo over the Playstation 3, which was also released on the same month. Although Sony has certainly established a rather wide market base in the world market, Nintendo still held the age old allure of presenting innovative designs coupled with family-friendly games that were enjoyed by many for years.

Aside from enjoying overwhelming sales, the Nintendo Wii hardware won the Game Critic s Award for two of the most coveted citations - Best Show and Best Hardware. This is certainly an impressive feat considering the top competition ensued by Sony and Microsoft. The Nintendo Wii hardware is said to be the smallest game console, 157 mm in height.  Aside from the remarkable size, the Nintendo Wii hardware boasts two USB ports and an SD card slot. However, the most remarkable feature are the wireless controllers that allows players maximum and précised actions with the help of the sensor bar. The Nintendo Wii processor is nicknamed Broadway that has a memory of 1T-SRAM and a built-in flash memory of 512 MB.

Another highlight that should be noted in the Nintendo Wii hardware is the Wifi capability that can be connected through USB Ethernet adaptor. Even the CNET editors have given an 8/10 rating mainly because of its motion-sensitive features and online services that is certainly something that should be greatly taken into account. And all these at a very reasonable price of $ 249, a great bargain in comparison to the Sony Playstation 3 that costs $ 499.

It was freely divulged that the Nintendo Wii was originally named Revolution. Even the change in name, Nintendo has certainly lived up to the expectations of many of providing premium quality family-oriented entertainment. This is the reason why even amid the stiff competition, Nintendo still manages to maintain a firm clutch on the video gaming market. With the availability of the Nintendo Wii, Sony and Microsoft are faced with a daunting challenge of winning over the thousands of video game fanatics.
