Nintendo Wii Console

After two years of mentioning their latest video game console, Nintendo finally launched the new game console renamed Nintendo Wii from the codename "Revolution" on November 14, 2005.  Nintendo first mentioned about Nintendo Wii in the 2004 E3.  In 2006, the games critics awarded Nintendo Wii console with the Best of Show – an easy pick according to most critics.

Nintendo changed the name from Revolution to achieve its goal of reaching out to not only the avid gamers but to newcomers and all the members of the families included.  Since the advent of video games, they have previously been thought of as complicated and uninteresting.  Nintendo through the Wii game system would like to bridge the gap between gamers and the mainstream audiences.

During the release date, Nintendo Wii console was tagged with a manufacturer's SRP of $249.99.  As of December 15, 2006, over one million Nintendo Wii units have been sold worldwide, the highest gross comes from the U.S. while Japan leads next.  Nintendo promised to release millions more of Nintendo Wii console as well as the bundle package that cost around $600 to $700.

This article could not elaborate if you can get a bigger bargain by purchasing the bundle package, which by the way includes the console, the Wii Remote, classic controller, sensor bar, Nunchuk, Wii Sports Disc, Console stand, Wii AC Adapter, Wii AV Cable.  Each device is essential for an outstanding performance of the game system itself.

The Nintendo Wii console weighs only 2.0 pounds, the lightest so far among new generation consoles and features a compact design that connects naturally to your television's setup.  The Nintendo Wii console measures about 8.5 inches long, less than two inches thick, and around 6 inches wide.  The Nintendo Wii console features a self-loading optical media drive that is capable of playing 12cm Wii discs (single or double layered) or an 8cm Nintendo GameCube discs.

Nintendo has also tapped the help of IBM for the central processing unit (CPU codenamed "Broadway") with a memory capacity of 512 MB and a graphics processing unit or GPU manufactured by ATI.  The Nintendo Wii console can lie flat or on a stand.  The Wii stand is included in the bundle package as well as Wii AV Cable and Wii AC Adapter.

The Nintendo Wii console can receive and process communications from four Wii remotes at once and has a bay where SD memory cards may be inserted (Input feature).  The Output is an AV Multi-output port for composite, component, or S-video.
